It’s not a secret top positions at restaurants, from ownership stakes to executive roles, have historically been male-dominated. The barriers to entry are complex.

Breaking the glass ceiling is something only a few women can claim, and this gender disparity is rooted in societal norms, stereotypes, and systemic biases. Efforts to address the disparities include mentorship programs, advocacy for equal opportunities and gender-inclusive hiring policies, women-centric culinary schools, industry awards and recognition, financial support and incentive programs, educational outreach, collaboration initiatives, and more.

But there seems to be room for more opportunity when it comes to a national society/networking group to support, educate, and uplift women in restaurant leadership—which is why FSR and QSR are creating one.

Welcome to Women in Restaurant Leadership, or WiRL, a brand-new platform that’s capstone will be a one-day conference held on February 29 in Nashville called, “The Together Summit.”

Come join women from throughout all ranks of hospitality to workshop, learn, and engage with one another as we collectively progress the movement forward. You’ll hear from an executive recruiter on how to position yourself to climb the ladder; from the GLEAM Network about finding and becoming mentors; leaders from CHART, an organization dedicated to hospitality training and advancement, on best practices and tips to shine on the job; from ESG leaders like The Giving Kitchen, CORE, and Alex’s Lemonade Stand on how to elevate your career by elevating others; from the team behind WORTH on how to navigate in-person events and overcome biases; from influencers on how to build your own personal brand online; and way more. And bring your questions. Every session will focus on interaction, including a chance to quiz our advisory board of more than 30 female executives from across the industry.

Our aim with WiRL is to create a safe environment for women to connect, learn from one another, foster mentorship opportunities, and gather career advancement advice and tips. Do it all at “The Together Summit” and join the WiRL movement as we look to change the industry for the better.
