Tabassum Zalotrawala is the Senior Vice President of Global Restaurant Design and US Chief Development Officer at McDonald’s. She is responsible for new restaurant development and the optimization of McDonald’s 13,000+ U.S. restaurants, as well as creating enhanced customer and employee experience through restaurant design across the globe.
In her role, Tabassum sets McDonald’s five-year strategic growth plan for U.S. Development, collaborating with senior leadership to drive real estate, construction, design, and asset and property management decisions that support the company’s portfolio and financial performance. She also oversees Global Restaurant Design Strategy and Standards, working across global markets, segments, and cross-functional teams to develop market-relevant solutions that elevate the customer and employee experience, while also meeting franchisee expectations.
Tabassum joined McDonald’s in 2023, bringing a proven track record in restaurant development. She previously served as Chief Development Officer for Chipotle Mexican Grill, Panda Restaurant Group, and Arby’s, with expertise spanning interior design, architecture, real estate, construction, facilities, sourcing, sustainability, and asset management.
Her bachelor’s in fine arts is complemented by extensive executive education, including the Harvard Business School Advanced Management Program, which prepares leaders to tackle complex organizational challenges. She is also a LEED Accredited Professional, a Board Leadership Fellow with the National Association of Corporate Directors (NACD) and serves on the Pacific Southwest Chapter Board.
Tabassum is actively engaged in industry leadership and corporate governance, serving on the International Council of Shopping Centers (ICSC) Board of Trustees and the Board of Directors for DiamondRock Hospitality Company. She is also dedicated to social impact, supporting Sahiyo, a nonprofit organization, empowering Asian and other communities through education and advocacy.
